Charlize Theron is an American superstar actress who was born on the 7th of August 1975. The south African-American actress and film producer was born in Benoni, Gauteng, South Africa. She was the only offspring of Charles and Gerda Theron.

Charlize Theron’s is from an Afrikaner family, and her ancestral lineage has been mixed with Dutch, French and German; her French predecessors were early Huguenot settlers in South Africa. The name Theron is an Occitan surname.

She grew up on a farm which was owned by her parents in Benoni, not far from Johannesburg. When she was 13 years of age, with the ambition of taking her ballet studies to the next level, began attending a boarding school that specialized mostly in arts.

When she was 15, a very awful and saddening event occurred. She was home during the break of school when her dad offensively assaulted and physically attacked her mother. Gerda Theron, her mother, in the process shot her father and he died in the process. This act was legally judged by the court to have been an act of self-defense, which her mother clear of all charges.

At the age of 16, Charlize won a local modeling contest and was awarded a one-year modeling contract in Salerno, Italy. This deal made her and her mother move to Milan. Thereafter, Charlize spent a year modeling throughout Europe. Charlize and her mother still made movements to the United States where they lived both in the city of New York and Miami.

In New York, she went to the Joffrey Ballet School, where she learned, trained and had aspirations to become a ballet dancer but unfortunately, those dreams died due to a dreadful knee injury that certainly put a stop to this career path. This event transfigured Charlize’s life making her sad, moody, and depressed because she didn’t realize that in the blink of an eye, her dreams have been closed because her knees gave up before she could even start.

At the age of 19, Charlize flew over to the city of the Angels, Los Angeles, on a one-way ticket that her mother had purchased for Charlize with the last of her savings. She came over to this city with the mindset to start working in the film industry. Her life turned around at this moment when she went into a Boulevard bank to cash the check that her mother had sent to help her with some rent troubles that she was having at that time.

She got to the bank and the cashier refused to cash it, this incident obviously made Charlize engage in a shouting match with the cashier and the bank manager. This was the moment when she met the talent agent John Crosby, waiting behind her, he gave her his business card and subsequently introduced her to casting agents. From there she enrolled into an acting school.

Several months after meeting John Crosby, Theron was seen in her first movie, where she played a non-speaking role in the horror film titled Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest (1995). Her next movie was 2 days in the valley (1996) where she played her first speaking role as she was a hit woman in the movie. Although it was a small role, nothing major, Charlize was prominently featured in some other movies. Then after, the offers for her to play the hot chick parts started rolling in but Charlize was quick to turn them down. She said she had to turn them down because she knew that playing the same role over and over doesn't leave you with any longevity.

Her acting talent increased in popularity when she won an award in a performance where she played the role of a serial killer named Aileen Wuornos in Monster (2013). To play the role, she had to gain lots of weight to the point where she became almost unrecognizable. She had to gain nearly about 14kg extra and this helped her become the first African to be awarded an acting Oscar.

Later in 2004, Charlize was seen featured in two movies, Head in the Clouds (2014) and The Life and Death of Peter Sellers (2004). In 2005, she was nominated for an Academy Award nomination for best actress after her brilliant performance as a single mother and a miner battling sexual harassment in North Country (2005). Ms. Magazine made reference to her performance in this particular movie with a feature article in its Fall 2005 issue where she was praised and honored for playing such a role.

Charlize Theron suffered from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder to an extent that it was said that she had to explore every closet, locker, and drawer in the house or hotel room during a movie shoot. In 2011, she adopted her first child, a boy named Jackson and later on in 2015, she adopted a girl named August.

She played in the films Æon Flux (2005), The Huntsman: Winter's War (2016), and Atomic Blonde (2017). This year, she was nominated for the 2019 Golden Globe Award for best performing Actress in the Musical/Comedy category for the role she played as Marlo in Tully (2018) but she lost it to a rival Olivia Colman who featured in a movie called The Favorite (2018). 2018, Charlize Theron had an estimated net worth of $110 million and she is indeed a force to reckon with in the movie industry.
