Synopsis: Aeon Flux is a covert operative of a underground group known as the Monicans. When she is sent on a secret mission, a whole other mystery is found.

Review: After a virus kills 99% of the worlds population a scientist named Trevor Goodchild develops a cure. The remaining five million people still alive are in a place called Bregna, the last city on earth. Some people do not like the idea of this utopian society and want to rebel. They believe that this city is a gilded gage and they want freedom. Further more, they believe that people are disappearing and that their leaders are responsible for their disappearance.

The promotional material for Atomic Blond (2017) would have you believe that Atomic Blond was the first real action movie Charlize Theron has played in. Of course this film disproves that. She does not do as many action films as Kate Beckinsale in the Underworld films. This is my favorite character of hers. Martin Csokas plays a competent character. I liked his performance in A Voice From The Stone (2017) a little bit better than his performance in this film.

The film focuses on the concept of freedom. The freedom aspect of the film is kind of strange. Are the rebels just spoiled entitled snowflakes or do they have a legitimate concern? The world out side of the city of Bregna is supposed to be post apocalyptic. Cooperation is apart of human survival. Yet some people want to rebel. The Matrix series has a similar concept. The main protagonist doesn’t really know who they are in the beginning of the film. The find out the truth about the created world around them and the people who control it. They have incredible martial arts abilities or some special form of combat. They uncover the more truth and rise above the controlling system by the end of the film. Just like the movie Equilibrium (2002), The Hunger Games series, or Ultraviolet (2006). The same concept stamped on a different movie over and over again.

One of the most ridicules things about this movie is that Aeon Flux goes on undercover secret operations without covering up her face, so the authorities can now find out who she is. Only sometimes does she cover her face up. This is more than likely the directors choice since film makers want to see the emotion on the celebrities face on screen. The security in this film is strange, ineffective, and just plain old trippy. The communication in this film is weird as well. It looks like some kind of spores are to be consumed by the body in some way and you speak to some on in your mind. This movie is very stylistic and confusing at times.

Interesting

Film

The cinematography is perfect except when the action scenes happen. Some of the action scenes cut the camera angles way too much. Sometimes its hard to keep my eyes on the screen because of all the crazy chaos. We can say that maybe it was because Charlize Theron was not very good at movie style combat or they didn’t want the audience to notice the stunt double, but I really don’t see that to be the case. When you look at the film, anyone can tell that there are unnecessary cuts to the fight scenes that offer the viewer nothing special at all. Its very obvious that Charlize Theron’s abilities or lack there of was not the case just bad directing. Again, all other scenes work perfectly fine. The backgrounds, lighting, set dressing, colorizing, and wardrobe are all well done. The film has one plot twist after another so the movie is not boring but hard to keep up with because on how otherworldly the film is. The product of this movie is very high quality. I really liked this film, most of the time. Its a decent movie.
