This feels like an evolution of Star Trek: Enterprise but done so much better. I really like what CBS has done. The show has the look of the J.J. Abrams movies with out the strange story line that negates the TV canonical series or the hilarious lens flares. I cant wait to see more of this show. So these are they ugliest Klingons ever. They do look like alien monsters. They have the face only a mother could love. The graphics of the show are amazingly beautiful, well done! The cinematography is the best of all the different Star Trek TV series. That’s a great accomplishment. The set dressing and wardrobe are very high quality. The musical score is fitting. The space environments are just beyond breath taking. The space battles are intense.
The show has a very necessary element in order to drive a Star Trek series forward, conflict. I’m glade to see that the Klingons are the enemy in the premier episodes rather than the silly Xindi of the previous Star Trek: Enterprise series. The writers also understand that the characters are designed to serve the plot and not the other way around. The use of Vulcans are also better in this series than Start Trek: Enterprise. Instead of the Vulcans being annoying, they are logical to the degree that is necessary for the plot to advance forward. This allows the writers to tell the story rather than focusing on useless exposition.
The show uses flash backs as a way to build the back story of the ship and its crew. This works well in getting the audience into the story very fast rather than the long and drawn out premier plots of Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise. Your drawn into the story immediately rather than the boring narrative of holding up the plot so we can learn about characters that are not very important like Neelix in Voyager. The show is taking risks rather then being stagnant. Although the show has great CGI and space battles, the show has a story based narrative to it. So far I’m hopeful for this series. Its been way too long since we have had a good Star Trek TV show. The original series, The Next Generation, Deep Space 9, and yes even Voyager, those where the days. Don’t get me started on Enterprise. I hope CBS keeps up the good work. Its important for them to focuses on quality and not the quantity of episodes. The Star Trek franchise is one of the most well thought out franchises in science fiction today, so lets hope CBS well take constructive criticism when its needed. Great work so far.
