Synopsis: The adventures of a writer named Newt Scamander in New York’s secret community of wizards and magic seventy years before the events of Harry Potter.

Review: A wizard named Newt Scamander ( Eddie Redmayne ) has dedicated his life to finding and cataloging of various beasts of the magical world. On his trip to America from England one of his creatures escapes and he sets out to recapture the little critter when he is spotted by the magical underground police officer. He is in trouble for using his magic in public and not wiping the mind of a ‘mogul’ ( non-magic human of the surface world ) who witness him using his magic.

Eddie Redmayne does great in films, well, we will pretend that Jupiter Ascended (2015) never happened. From films like My Week With Marylyn (2010), The Danish Girl (2015), and Savage Grace (2007) Eddie Redmayne brings a fun energy to the films he plays in and that’s critically important for motion picture film. People tent to watch movies to escape reality. That charisma, drive, and friendliness he has works very well on screen. He is absolutely one of the most dedicated actors I have very seen on screen. I really enjoying watching his movies and I appreciate all of the hard work and passion that actors like him dedicate to their art.

The film focuses in the concept of inclusively. Politics do play a major role in the plot of this film with Grindelwald’s nefarious behavior behind the scenes. Not to mention that the underground wizarding world is made up of many deferent people from many different ancestral regions. At the same time the wizards want to stay separate from the rest of the world as a way of protecting them selves and the wizarding world from regular people or ‘moguls‘. So the wizards are not so inclusive after all. They tend to let fear keep them separate from others but that’s probably for a good reason.

The cinematography is very well done. The whole movie is very high quality and better than the Harry Potter films when is come to graphics, although I will say that the Dumbledore vs. Voldemort fight had ‘some’ really great effects. This movie looks very polished and some of the camera shots was done perfectly. The CGI is still not where it needs to be. Some of the monsters in this movie looks a little too much like plastic. Hopefully the next film will be upgraded. The lighting, set dressing, props, and wardrobe are all top notch. You can of course tell that this film is geared toward children, so the movie is supposed to be taken light heartedly. This was a fun film indeed. Its like J.K. Rowling’s version of the video game Monster Hunter. I really like how this film is attached to the Harry Potter universe. Some fans don’t like that sort of thing but I always enjoy it when the creators of a franchise expanded the universe that they have created. Sometimes you get hits like Star Wars and sometimes you get misses like the Prometheus (2012) and Alien: Covenant (2017). Its a real treat to see the rest of the world that was imagined by the talented creators who made them. I also really enjoyed seeing a magical version of the vintage world. This is a top notch film and really good watch.
