She was a political activist that got caught red handed masterminding a vandalism attack. Yeah she was pretty hardcore. She could have easily been locked up in prison for many decades with her nefarious antics, but instead her mind was wiped and imprinted with a personality that was docile and obedient. She didn’t have much of a choice but to comply with the wishes of Adelle DeWitt. Its kind of messed up really. She is a sort of slave. Rich and decadent clients rent her for a day and she believes that she is a person she in not. Everything from a hot date, to a hostage negotiator, to a loving wife, and so on. The deal was that after she has given a certain number of years of her life to the Dollhouse as an ‘Active‘, she will be free. This is her punishment for her attacks on the company who owns the Dollhouse.

Of course nothing is what it seems with the Dollhouse. They use her not just as a high class escort, but as a lab rat as well. She is experimented on in order to create a new mass weapon and an antidote harvested from her spinal fluid. This causes her mind to split into deferent personalities all living in the same body, aware of everything that is happening and of each other personality living inside of her. She is used as a play thing to a weapon. She is a tool for the Dollhouse. She is evolving right under everyone’s nose. She is becoming something else, known as ‘Echo’ a unique personality. She is a enigma of sorts. Some kind of super soldier.

Eliza Dushku plays a lot of different characters in this show. Her performance is more like her professional acting portfolio. Needless to say, this is the most range we have ever seen from this actress.
